Haiku Challenge - WINNER

Well, here we are at yet another post Haiku Monday Result Show, and I'm sitting with popo in hand and not a clue where to start.

I know, I know, the beginning, Stupid!!!  Right?

Fine!

Grins started us off with a rousing version of multiple faces...round and round he goes, which one he'll grab?  Nobody knows!

Hiding in smiles and words,
they'll never find the true me
Wonder if I will?

As CoreyJo said about the 6 syllables in the first line, "DAMN!  It was nice, too."

Next came the ever wise Karl with a chameleon like twist  on our president.  However, the one that really grabbed me was the one about his ragamuffin friend.  Sorta hiding in broad daylight, paying with cash and leaving no footprint.

Tatterdemalion
Unobserved contentment
Pays cash with C-notes

Blaze, similar to Grins touched on the aspect of the chameleon I think we can all relate to.  More or less, it's a tough damn world, and man (or woman) has to have his (her) armor.  Sometimes our best armor is a smile, a laugh, anything, really, to give us a bit of warmth from the inside out. Give a demon a smiley face, and it can't help but SMILE right back atcha!!!

Sharp wit and laughter,
Some tools to mask the hurt; pain
Plaster on the smile

A nature poem from Serendipity is like getting a post card in the mail...just makes you wanna go check the place out for yourself.  Surprisingly, my fave this week from her was a different face of the chameleon.  That being the one that hides not in defense, but offensively.  Only thing, though, as she aptly points out, you can hide all you want, but your true colors will ALWAYS shine through...good or BAD.  (oh, and bad defense is ALWAYS offensive).

A glittering smile,
everyone’s best friend...slight change;
a knife between ribs.

Island Rider surprised me with a pop in and amazed me with two wonderful poems.  The second one, in particular, really grabbed me by my horn and twisted a little to make it hurt.  What struck me about her "homeless" 'ku, is the conflicting image of whether the person is in hiding or society in effect is hiding from the homeless person.  Are we as a people openly ignoring the soar thumb that lies in our way as we walk down the sidewalk?  Are these people fading from society because they don't fit into the perfect little "ideal" and is this the burden she means by the "heavy pack"?  Perhaps if I promise to play nice, she'll clue us in.

Weathered face downcast
Homeless lifts her heavy pack
Fades in crowd alone

Next came the liltingly comedic Fleur.  To hear her speak, she's had more lost flames than the Devil, himself, has souls burn'n in eternal effigy.  Perhaps it's because she likes hanging out with dudes with tongues longer than my...well, ya' know...never mind.

Hers, I thought, was about a chameleon sticking out it's tongue to nab it some dinner, instead I found Gene Simmons look'n to get a little Frenchy French action outta her sultry little self.  (YUMMY!!!)  Does anyone else think she's naughty, or it just me?  HaHa, just kidding...sorta.

Last came Czar.  IDK, sometimes I puzzle through his 'ku thinking, I know he's telling me something, I JUST KNOW IT!  It's only 17-syllables, right?  So I dip and turn, look left, then right.  Two steps forward, one step back.  Nothing.

So I start again.

Nothing.

What do y'all think?  Has he outsmarted me into thinking he has sumpt'n when he's got nut'n?

DAMN!!

All I can think of
Is Boy George and that karma
Song. Not what you want.

So now what?

Oh, right, there's supposed to be a winner!!!

CRAP!

This was originally not a unanimous decision, but with some cajoling, arm twisting and nekkid boobies flying all over the damn place (since when does a gay dude want big bazoomba's han'g in his inbox, for crying out loud?!?), a decision was finally won.

Blaze with her plastered smile certainly hit a chord with all of us, but in the end Island Rider WON THE DAY!!!

Congratulations, HIP HIP HOORAY & Hallelujah!!!!

To be clear, winning means you can post the badge of honor on your website and that you will be hosting, picking a theme and, ultimately, picking next week's WINNER!!!

Congrats to ALL for another super grand time.  Per usual, the hosting has been a fantastic, with all sorts of fun gags and giggles.

Be well, be blessed, be blessed with HAPPY--

Rafa

  1. Oh my goodness! I am very honored. There was a lot of great work posted and I am a newbie at this. Thank you so much. And yes, I did think of the pack as being more than physical baggage. I actually was thinking about a homeless woman who walks by my office almost every day. We have tried to help her, but she will not accept anything, even eye contact. Her mom stopped In our office one day asking if we had seen her and we heard her story. It was so sad as she will not accept help for her mom either. Anyway enough of the sadness. I will put my brain to work and post a theme on my blog and back here tomorrow. Thanks again ever so much!

  2. Ah, well there you go..
    Good showing and good 'kus .. But that is the norm with this crowd.... And good hosting.
    Congrats to island rider.
    And that's for the invite on my non blog. I did think on your most interesting theme... But I'm telling you, man.. Whatever muse I might have had has abandoned me.

  4. Congrats, Island Rider! I liked yours, too.

    As for you, Raffee, I'd like put about 4 oz of whatever you're taking into my Diet Coke! I think it's natural, though, yes? Being called "liltingly humorous" is certainly delightful!

    Nice job, all! Let's stick out our tongues and lure our missing haiku comrades back for Island Rider's challenge!

  5. Good morning Rafa,

    Congratulations to you Island Rider!

    A fine performance by everyone this week.

    Rafa: Thank you for hosting, another job well done. I must admit a lack of understanding in how any guy, gay or not, wouldn't appreciate boobage in his inbox.

  6. Holy estrogen overload! I will always bear in mind that too much boobies and estrogen in your box (in OR out) makes Rafa a wee nutty(er)! lol
    Darl, you did another fantastic job of hosting for the illin' Becca and calling in the troops for judging ... YOU ALL ARE AMAZING!!!!
    Y'all made an excellent choice in Island Rider's 'ku.
    CONGRATS ISLAND RIDER! =)

    Awesome 'ku by all! =)

  7. @Island Rider:
    You are no longer a "newbie", and, taking into consideration your entries from weeks past, you have more than earned your badge! Congrats again!!!

    @Foam:
    I totally understand...mojo, no matter the task, can be fickle at best.

    Know you are missed, not just for your haiku and your ever thoughtful commentary, but also for the quirky second comment I always know is gonna come, correcting your "auto-correct" issue. Don't know why, but that always brings me a SMILE!

    @Fleur:
    Trust me, Darl'n "OH" Mine, I'm ALL natural and you won't need a whole 4 oz...a little dab will more than do ya'. Oh, and SCREW the Diet Coke, straight from the fount is always BEST!! However, if you find it a bit too bitter a pill to swallow, don't you dare spit it out... that's just rude!! (sorry, you knelt right into that one =D).

    @Karl:
    It's not that I didn't appreciate the boobage, it was fine and all...nice even, but imagine, if you will, receiving a pic of a man's sweet mound of round; honey'd crisp and glistening with ripeness. Would you be offended? Hope not. Would you find it sexy? 'Prolly not. In the end (haha), you're right. I may be gay, but a'int DEAD! Flesh is flesh, and I'm full of...sin(?).

    @Blazg:
    Fortunately for me, the Mister loves my nut(iness)...more buttery the better!!!

    If you do nothing else today, SMILE!!!

    Rafa

    P.S. I've pretty much finished doing my "thing" with Kristen's boobs, now I just gotta scan it back in and do some finishing touches. Not sure if she's gonna let it fly, but I think it's turned out real nice. It's nothing pornographic and all "artfully" done, of course.

  8. congrats Island Rider a win well deserved and Rafa you promise not to mention those boobies pics wait till i tell Corey Jo you told everyone see if we email you anymore pics..lol

  9. Good afternoon Rafa,

    If she gives you to go ahead. Let me know Win you post it.

    @Becca: In Rafa's defense, I instigated this. It's from a comment exchange with Kristen. To my knowledge of the only boobage that was in play, belonged to her. Although from further comments posted, I believe that sending him pictures of breasts is a wasted effort. If you need an outlet I will happily volunteer.

  10. LOL. Wouldn't you know it is on Rafa's watch that this comment thread went a little over the mountain, as it were. Ha, ha!

    Nice job Island Rider, welcome to the winner's circle.

    It was an interesting collection of 'ku generally, as usual.

    Rafa, what a thoughtful and in depth writeup, despite your work deadlines. So well done hosting and with the recap!

    Off to being AWOL again - work-travel.

  11. Guess, what? I won this week's Haiku Monday contest and that means I get the priviledge of hosting this week's Haiku Monday and choosing the theme.

    This week's theme is Pests.

    At first glance you might think of insect pests, ants that invade your cupboard, cockroaches large enough to ride on or locusts of Biblical proportions.

    But, there are other things that pester and annoy us too. Perhaps it is a human pest who you run screaming from at first opportunity. Maybe it is another animal like a dog that should have his own moment in the spotlight on dog-shame.com. Maybe it is a situation like a tailgater who thinks they can move you along if they ride your bumper. Whatever it is, crying child in a restaurant, woodpecker banging on the chimney cap, political ads or a pesky telemarketer, write about a pest in your life.

    Traditional Haiku standards apply, 3 lines, 5 syllables, 7 syllables and then, 5 again.

    Deadline is Monday, September 24, at midnight PST. Can't wait to see what you all come up with. If you submit more than two, let me know which two you want judged.

  12. Congrats on your win Island Rider, and a most excellent theme for next week! I already have a list a mile long of all the pests in my life... Now which ones to pick is the question.

    Great job hosting Rafa. You seem to shine under pressure quite well. I only wish that I'd have noticed the syllable count in grins haiku before it was too late. It was a pleasure and an honor to help you judge this week. I have a feeling one of your haiku's for next week is going to be about those pesky boobies that keep popping up in your box.... LOL!!

    Job well done by everyone!! Till next week!

  13. @Becca:
    For the record, I didn't promise sh*nothing. Oh, and I found all sorts of various girly bits in my inbox this morning...hmmmm, funny what girls will do for a gay boy with a penchant for mischief = D~

    @Karl:
    I promise to let you know, but, although you may see her boobage in all their glory (CoreyJo mentioned something about them being an "I" or a "J", for whatever the hell that means), it's definitely more arty farty than sexual. Oh, and you're right, showing me a couple a feedbags is kinda like parading for the gyno...gals might as well hitch themselves up in the stirrups and show ALL!

    @Serendipity:
    You must know by now that it's not that I don't SEE the line, but being the athletic type, I wave to it from high above as I jump up, over and smack dab into OUT OF BONDS!!!

    Awe shucks, my hosting twernt 'nut'n...took just a few moments of kerplunk, kerplop, kerploop; copied and pasted straight from the terlut and onto my post. (didn't even wash my hands first...as you could tell especially from my last note to Fleur. )

    ***Note to Fleur: Even I think it was in bad taste and for that, I am sorry***

    @Island Rider:
    GREAT theme. Those pesky voices in my head that make me so damn craaazy are fix'n to get a little light shone on their whispering lips of foulness.

    @CoreyJo:
    Thanks, but I think your mistaking my sheen from time well spent to a shine under pressure. Though, I must say, I did see stars as I pressed not to spend! HaHa...sorry, last one was a curly tickling at my fancy.

    Both you and Becca were a HUGE help, so thank you for your comments, as they certainly framed much of my re-cap.

    @All:
    Thanks again for another great week of hosting. It's such an honor to have this opportunity to let people into my silly little world while, simultaneously, learning and feeling from their experiences. Afterwords I'm a bit exhausted, but always, always better for the process.

    Allow yourselves a tad bit of naughtiness & BE FREE--

  14. Again Rafa, I'm just bedazzled by you hosting. You've got such a nice way to make everyone feel... er... welcum-ed??? Seriously, you really know how to make everyone feel special and that's truly remarkable considering the time constraints. You're the bestest (!)

    ;)~~

    Doodl'ing rooster sauce
    Man! You are GREAT...
    Master of your grand da' bate
    Choking, stroking
    'Spend your cry
    Greatest of ease, you let it all fly
    No cause for rebuttal, just can't refute:

    Man that's in motion; flapping his word
    Always goes silent when he's toss'n his bird

    You always find away to make me blush from the inside out. Too dark to show off my inner glow, I've found a bit of silliness bubbling forth is the next best way to say THANKS!!!

    =D Rafa

    P.S. I missed having a poem from you this week, so don't go thinking for one second that I didn't notice. I just decided to give you a pass, 'cause you're soooooo cute!!!

    All around the ginger's bush
    My monkey chased his rooster
    Ginger bent to grab the soap
    POP! Went my weasel!

    HaHa...I'm a real crack 'n hammer bang'n at your drum.

    Seriously, though, EVERYONE can haiku; I've been throwing down since barely outta protective pantaloons. 'Course, with my penchant for pottiness, I wore 'em longer than most. =D.

    If you're looking for a more accurate way to craft a 'ku, I'd suggest contacting just about any of the above participants or try Wikipedia. If you're looking to bastardize the art form; I'm your MAN!!! (haha)

    I'll throw you a line, but expect being pestered to join in the FUN!

    SMILE--
